Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro is a Portugal Footballer who plays for the Spanish club Real Madrid and the for his country nation. He often usually plays in center forward position. However, he has also been deployed as a winger. He was captain of the Portugal Football Team for the year 2007–to 2016. He served his country as a captain for 9 long years. Ronaldo is often ranked as the best player in the world and widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of Football.

He is one of the most marketable athletes in the sport. Recently Forbes magazine named him the world’s best-paid athlete, moreover ESPN ranked him the world’s most famous athlete.

Cristiano Ronaldo Origin

Ronaldo was raised by a very poor family, his father was a municipal gardener and his mother was a cook. He was the youngest of his siblings. He was born in Santo Antonio, a neighbourhood of Funchal, Madeira.

His name ‘Ronaldo’, was chosen after the famous actor turned politician Ronald Reagan, who was the 40th president of the United States. Ronaldo’s father was a great fan of Mr Reagan.

In his childhood, Ronaldo played for the amateur team Andorinha, where his father was a kit man. He was very aggressive in his childhood as he had been expelled after throwing a chair at his teacher.

Ronaldo started playing football mere at the age of 8 and by just seeing his game he was selected for Andorian Sports Club at the age of 8 and as soon as he turned 10, he was selected for the city’s best football club named ‘Nacional FC’, he spent two years of his life learning from them and at the age of 12 he was called for a trail at Portugal Sporting Club(PSC).

The Club was impressed with his game and signed him for £1500. PSC was situated in the city of Lisbon, which was the capital of Portugal. Ronaldo needs to leave his family and go to Lisbon to play, he was very sad, but took care of himself and kept practising. Through his industrious game, he became famous in the capital of Portugal.

Somewhere in between, he was found with a disease known as ‘Tachycardia’(A rapid heartbeat). The doctor advises him not to rest and not to play football. Thus, Ronaldo was having only two options either he left his passion or else undergo a risky operation which could risk his life as well.

But there was no going back for him, he underwent that severe surgery in which a laser was used to cauterize the affected area of his heart, however, there was nothing to worry about, within some days he rejoined his practice with the same enthusiasm.

Everything was working fine, Ronaldo was improving his game day by day, however, there was another incident that occurred in his life there was a sudden death in his house.

His father died at the age of 52, this incident devastated him to a greater extent as he was very close to his father and use to share everything with him. Due to this incident, Ronaldo never touched alcohol. After his father’s death, the family’s responsibility came on the shoulder of his mother, and the financial condition of his family became very weak.

Ronaldo’s mother needs to work at another’s house as a cook to earn her livelihood along with her family. However, Ronaldo didn’t give a damn about it and kept his concentration on his game and came up as the best footballer in the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Turning Point

Ronaldo played his first match for the PSC at the age of 17 against United Manchester. This match was a turning point for Cristiano Ronaldo as this was a match in which ‘Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of the Manchester United FC saw this brilliant player and signed him for his club with a signing amount of $17million.

This was the highest signing amount in the history of Football. He played for Manchester United from Aug 2003-May2009. He played 196 matches with a record of 84 goals. Later, Real Madrid signed him for $132 million.

He signed a 6-year contract with Real Madrid from 2009–to 2015, however, he extended his contract till 2021 by signing a deal of Rs1,864 Cr and only with this deal did he become the richest football player in the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo Awards

In 2008, he won his first award Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the year awards. Ronaldo then won the FIFA Ballon d’Or in 2013 and 2014. In 2016, he received his fourth Ballon d’Or, the most for a European player in the history of the award, and the inaugural Best FIFA Men’s Player.

In 2015, Ronaldo scored his 500th senior career goal for club and country. Ronaldo was named the best Portuguese player of all time by the Portuguese Football Federation, during its 100th-anniversary celebrations in 2015. He is the only player to win four European Golden Shoe awards.

He became rich but that didn’t make him poor by heart, he kept on donating to various charities and social groups. At a time, he also donated Rs51 lakhs for the surgery of a 10-month-old baby, that’s worth appreciating. Ronaldo does blood donation every year and that is the reason why he never made any tattoos on his body.

Cristiano Ronaldo Learnings

Today Ronaldo lives in Royal H use and drives lavish cars but his ‘rags to riches story started in-roof roof house where he uses to live with his poor family. This was a place where his father uses to handle his expenses critically. Today he may be a healthy sportsman but there was a time when he has to undergo severe heart surgery which could risk his life.

In all these problems he lost his father as well but took care of himself even after facing so many problems and never lost hope. Hence due to their strong willpower and positive attitude, he is known as the best footballer in the world in today’s time.

All of us have problems but it is our attitude which makes the difference. At the time of rain, birds find shelter for relief but eagles fly above the clouds.
